It is wonderful the way you are learning how to use sentence starters and sensory details to write a spooky, haunted house story. Some of you must be determined to make your stories come alive.
Wow, Boys and Girls,
You are practicing math in your notebooks and you are going up to the board to explain your thinking. I especially love the way you learn from your mistakes. Make it Light, Get it Right. Nice work!

Boys and Girls,
Here are some of your Wild Turkey Habitats. Each poster or model has samples of water, food, shelter and other things from the temperate forest that turkeys need to survive. A turkey would probably find everything it needs in one of your well-planned homes.

What do turkeys need to survive in their habitat?
If you were a wild turkey, where would you find food? Where would you sleep? Where would you go to hide from predators? Good habitats have lots of fruit, seeds, insects and vegetation for turkeys to eat. Turkeys also need roosting areas within forested habitats. They like to roost in conifers (evergreens) close to water and on ridgetops or knolls. Even though turkeys sleep in trees, they lay their eggs in nests on the ground. Turkeys’ predators include snakes, skunks, dogs, coyotes, rodents, possums, hawks, owls, fox and raccoons. They are more vulnerable to predators if ground-level vegetation is sparse. Eastern wild turkeys have a better chance of survival in a good habitat with ample food, water and with good cover. |

Hi Second Graders,
Did you have a fun summer? I had a great time visiting with friends, and playing with my granddaughters, and our dogs, Sparkle and Cocoa. I also went on a camping trip in Rhode Island and saw rabbits, groundhogs, and chipmunks that were so friendly that one chipmunk sat right between my friend's feet!
Our goal this year is to make new friends and learn a lot. During the first week of school we will make a chart and do an activity to find out what we have in common. Be ready to ask and answer questions like these: Do you like dogs or cats? What is your favorite pizza topping? My favorite flavor ice cream is pistachio. What is yours?
If you feel nervous about the first day of school, you are not alone. Click on the link below to watch the "Wemberly Worried" video. I'll see you soon!
